Hessam Abrishami was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1951, the son of middle class parents; he was one of eight children. With the encouragement of a high school teacher, at age fifteen Hessem began exploring his talent and passion for painting. He went on to study art in Italy, earning a master’s degree in fine art from the Accademia di Belle Arti Pietro Vannucci.
After his studies, Hessam emigrated to Los Angeles where, today, he continues to create art. Hessam is greatly influenced by modern masters such as Cezanne and Picasso. Primarily figurative, his paintings are replete with bold color and dynamic tension.
An exhibition of new work by Hessam will be on show at ArtPeople November 16 through 30, 2009; the opening reception will be held November 21, from 4 to 8 p.m.
