SF Opera celebrates the opening of its 91st season with a gala opening night like none other. SF Opera Guild’s Opera Ball 2013: The Garden of Good and Evil will be created by celebrity event designer Colin Cowie to reflect the celestial and devilish themes of the evening’s performance–Italian composer Arrigo Boito’s Mephistopheles. Always a highlight of the City’s cultural and philanthropic season, Opera Ball is an extraordinary event benefitting SF Opera’s and SF Opera Guild’s award-winning education and community programs. Opera Ball 2013 is co-chaired by Ann Girard and Mai Shiver. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with cocktails and dinner in City Hall. Following the opening night performance of Mephistopheles, guests return to City Hall for cocktails, dessert and dancing. Individual tickets $1,500- $5,000 (performance tickets sold separately). Call (415) 565-3204.
