On Saturday, February 8, 2014, the San Francisco Symphony will celebrate the “Year of the Horse” by hosting its annual Chinese New Year Concert and Celebration. The celebrations begin with a Festival Reception for all ticket holders at 3 p.m. The pre-concert festivities in the Davies Symphony Hall lobbies provide family friendly entertainment and activities, including children’s arts and crafts, lion dancing, and Chinese calligraphy, as well as complimentary food, desserts, and tea bars.
The 4 p.m. concert celebrates San Francisco’s unique cultural fabric, with a blend of traditional Chinese music and instruments, along with classical works by Chinese and Chinese-American composers. The elegant Chinese New Year Imperial Dinner, inspired by the rich visual pageantry of traditional Chinese New Year celebrations, will be at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Grand Rotunda. Tickets for the Imperial Dinner will be sold separately. The Chinese New Year Celebration will be chaired by Mindy Sun.
The proceeds from the Chinese New Year Concert and Imperial Dinner go to the Symphony’s education and community programs, which serve 75,000 Bay Area elementary, middle, and high school students each year. Dinner tickets include access to the Festival reception, the Chinese New Year Concert, and the Imperial Dinner. These tickets will be mailed out two weeks before the event.
