On Friday May 2, the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center directed by Katie Albright will host Dancing with the Stars contestant Diana Nyad, Senator Dianne Feinstein, and Human Health Watch’s Tina and Joe Bou-Saba at its 17th Annual Blue Ribbon Luncheon.
Child abuse is a societal issue that leaves its victims at increased risk for learning disorders, delinquent behavior, suicide, alcoholism, obesity, and drug addiction, which can all impact the health of our communities. The nonprofit brings together influential community members and high-profile individuals to raise funds for the center’s programs and share its progress. After all, San Francisco is known for being progressive with green ambitions and gay rights movements, but child abuse remains a “hush hush” topic, despite the 6,000 suspected cases reported each year.
