The Modern Ball 2014
On Wednesday, April 30, Yerba Buena Gardens was transformed into an avant-garde moveable party with artistic surprises at every turn. Even without a museum (this was the first time SFMOMA’s biggest bash was held in another venue), three sensational experiences came together on one surreally hot night, all designed by Stanlee Gatti: the Gala Dinner, Supper Club, and Post-Modern Party at Metreon’s City View, with a live performance by Holy Ghost! and a DJ set by Passion Pit. Amid riots of flowers, fluorescent tubing, streaming ribbons, and spotlights on the construction cranes across the street at the museum, there were dancing costumed attendants and a live auction featuring an important work by Luc Tuymans. Proceeds from the event--$3.2 million--will support SFMOMA’s exhibitions and educational programs.
